Translation

'Loving in order to know. Knowing in order to love.'

Prof. Antonio Escohotado

Diario Póstumo. Confesiones de un Opiófilo, p. 156

There has always been, quietly and with insistence, a practice that has accompanied me: translation. Not only between languages, but between meanings —between what a patient says and what remains unspoken, between what a test shows and what it feels like to live through it, between what a scientist or a philosopher explores and how a student understands it. Over time, I came to know that to listen well is, in itself, a form of translation.

Having spent my life and worked across Madrid, Salamanca, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Munich, Poland and Ireland, and moved between Spanish and English, between medical and philosophical traditions, I began to see translation not as a secondary skill, but as something essential. It asks for a certain patience: to stay with what is not immediately clear, and to allow meaning to emerge rather than force it.

In my collaborations —writing, editing, and reviewing across fields from philosophy, history, education and technology to clinical practice and epidiagnostics— this same attention has remained. Each text, in its own way, is an attempt to carry meaning carefully, without losing what makes it human.
